Can CAP pay for my Ford Taurus transmission problem if I can't pass smog check?
My check engine light has been a problem for me to pass a smog check. The transmission sends an error to the cpu which makes the diagnostic exam fail during the smog test. My mechanic told me the transmission is the reason why I can't pass. When I drive locally on the highway my engine does have problems engaging into the last gear. Therefore when acclerating to about 65 mph my car tends to stay at a regular 4000 Rpm's from is normal 3000. This problem not only burns oil quicker but fuel as well. I do believe this problem is not only bad for my car but for the enviroment. I am currently saving up for the repair of my transmission, but would greatly appreciate any type of assistance regaurding the fix on my car. The smog check program seems to be following my problem, but I personally wanted to know if I may recieve assistance on repair for a transmission problem.
Answer:
Unfortunately CAP will not pay for transmission repairs, even though in this case, it is causing a smog check failure. You will need to repair the transmission before being able to pass the smog check.
