You will need to purchase a Trouble Code scan tool from an auto parts store. The scan tool will connect to your Ford's OBD II connector (located under left side dashboard) and it will have a "clear codes" option.
Once the process is complete the check engine light will turn off. Remember also that along with turning off the check engine light, you will also have erased the "emission monitors". You will need to drive your vehicle for at at least 1 week (in normal driving condition, including freeways, streets, and traffic) in order to reset the monitors, and allow your Explorer to pass the next smog test.
