I am planning on putting a GM EROD LS3 engine (EO # D-126-30) in a 1987 Corvette. I was going to do this with my car, but have found a nearly identical Vette for sale in slightly better condition and with upgraded differential and brakes (important for the horsepower increase).
If I buy this other Vette is there some way to waive or delay the required smog check until after the engine change? The EROD kit contains all required polution control components---CATs, computer, evaporative emissions canister, etc. I will have to go through a BAR referee inspection after the engine change.
To justify buying it I will have to offer a low price representing the parts value & would like to save the seller the smog check expense if possible.
It should pass, but you never know with an older car and even minor repairs can get expensive.
