1996 Dodge Neon. I bought the car & the car cannot pass smog. What do i do?
I bought a car a couple of days ago. The seller did not provide me with a certificate of smog check. He told me at first that he did have it smogged the end of the year (2010). But apparently, it was smogged June of 2010 not December. When I try to get it smog. They could not smog it because the machine is not reading any RPM in the car. I know their machine is working because their's someone before me. I told the seller that I want my money back because apparently, the car look like it cannot be smog. I don't want to pay for repair. I have a family who we recently got into an accident so I can't deal with this at the moment. So is there any posibility that I'll be able to get my money back & return the car from the seller?

Here's the problem with buying a vehicle with out the smog certificate, if the vehicle fails the test it could cost you hundreds, sometimes thousands
of dollars to get it repaired. Sometimes sellers try to get the car to pass, and realize it will cost too much money, and decide to sell the car. In this case it's best to go back to the seller and explain the law says they have to provide a smog check certificate when selling a car. If they choose not to refund your money and take the Dodge Neon back you'll have to go to small claims court to recover your loss.
