If it's in fact your Chevy Impala is equipped with an aftermarket CAT, it
needs to have an EO (Executive Order) number. The smog technician is right.
Return to Nissan, show them the failed smog check report, and demand a new
California approved CAT or proof in writing from the current Catalytic
Converter's manufacturer that the CAT is California legal and does have an
EO number (have them supply the EO number as well obviously). Once you have
this documentation you can return to the smog test center and present it to
the smog check technician. He/She will then re-inspect your Chevy with
passing results.
