A copy or duplicate of your Ford Escort's smog check from last year will not
satisfy the DMV's request for a smog check certificate. Smog certificates
are only good for 90 days from the day they are issued. In this specific
case, in order to sell your 1997 Ford Escort, you will need to obtain a new
smog check. Any smog station can perform a smog test for the purpose of
selling a vehicle.
