General Smog Check

Selling my 2001 Honda CRV. Does it need a smog check?

Hello,

I am selling my 2001 honda crv to a private party. It passed its last (and all previous) required smog checks for registrtation. The last required check was approximatly 14 months ago.

The party interested in buying the car is telling me I (as the seller) am required to conduct a smog check within 3 months of selling it in order for the title to transfer and them to be able to register the car.

Can you please clarify and confirm this for me?

Thank you.

Kelly

Answer:

The buyer is correct. You will need to get a new smog check certificate for your 2001 Honda CRV for the purpose of title transfer. In fact a smog certificate obtained strictly for the purpose of selling a vehicle is only valid for 60 days. Any type of smog check station can conduct a smog check for the purpose of selling your Honda CRV. Just drive into any smog test center and explain your are selling your Honda and need a smog certificate.
