The dash board lights being on (illuminated) will not cause a smog check failure; including the Safety Restraint System (SRS) lights, or ABS / Anti-Lock lights. The only indicator light on the your Oldsmobile which could cause it to fail the smog test is the Check Engine Light (CEL) or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) or Service Engine Soon (SES) light. We highly recommend you ensure that in fact none of these lights are on. Depending on the make model and year of your vehicle, it will be equipped with one or the other.
Our records indicate the 2001 Oldsmobile Alero is equipped with a Service Engine Soon light. Please ensure the SES light is not illuminated during the smog check. If it is, your Alero will fail the smog check. If the service engine soon light has been turning on and off intermittently and happens to be off during the smog inspection, there is still a change of your Oldsmobile not passing the smog check if its emission monitors are not ready. In order for it's emission monitors to be ready for the smog check, the vehicle's engine computer must have tested the emissions system without any fault.
If the SES light is on or has been on during the recent past, we recommend having a smog check repair station pull the trouble codes from the computer to diagnose the fault before you obtain a smog test.
