A universal air duct is not going to work on your Mercedes S430. The component is very unique in design. You'll need to purchase either the original part from the Mercedes dealership or an OEM part from an auto parts store or online. They're as cheap as $20 on the internet. Although the air duct is not required to have an EO (executive order) number from the California Air Resources Board, it's still part of the engine emission system. If a duct is used as a replacement which does not conform to the original manufacturer's design, the smog technician does have the authority to fail the vehicle for having a tampered emission system component. Vehicle owners are encouraged to get a second opinion from the State Referee Office anytime a smog testing issue arises. You may contact the state referee by calling (800) 622-7733 to make an appointment.
