You'll need to drive your Mazda Miata for at least 100-200 miles (1 to 2
weeks worth of everyday normal driving) before it will be ready to smog
test. You need to drive your Mazda Miata for this period of time in order to
set the proper and required readiness flags also known as "monitors".
Monitors are internal self tests your Miata will run while you are driving
ensuring all emissions components and systems are functioning properly. Out
of the 6 or 7 monitors your Miata is equipped with you are only allowed to
have one incomplete monitor and still pass the test. So to ensure all the
monitors are complete and your Mazda passes the smog check the first time
around, continue to drive it for at least another 100 miles before you take
it in for the smog inspection.
