Have you tried contact the State Smog Check Referee's Office? They have a hard-to-find emission parts service which might be able to locate a catalytic converter for your Ford Focus. If are unable to help you, you may be able to seek a one-time two year smog check waiver. We encourage you to call them at (800) 622-7733, first. Your DMV deadline is coming, and it seems you may not be able to pass the smog check in time, so we'd recommend at least paying your renewal fees before the expiration date so you don't have to pay for a penalty on top of your repair expenses. You can do this on www.NeedTags.com. They post payment with the DMV even when you don't have your smog check.
Next will be to visit the DMV to ask for a second temporary registration permit. They are not likely to give you a second permit so you might have to speak with a supervisor. Explain that you've contacted the referee's office and they are helping you out. See if you can get a document from your local referee station as proof that you're doing everything you can to get your Ford Focus to pass the smog test. Hopefully you'll be issued another extension. If you want to save time at the DMV, call (800) 777-0133 for an appointment. If you plan on visiting the DMV before your tags expiration date, just pay your renewal fees at the office, just make sure it's before your sticker expiration date.
