Failed Smog Test

1981 Dodge B350 Xplorer Van Class B factory motorhome Conversion 360 CI 4 bbl failed visual smoke

Passed emissions easily, failed visual on small amount of blue smoke. Only driven 5700 miles in last two years. 2 years since oil change, 4 years since tuneup. Runs great.

If I change oil and add a seal conditioner and this eliminates blue smoke can I have another shop smog it and if it passes can I get it registered??? Or do I need to go to the referee?? Really not much smoke now. I am really surprized it failed.

Answer:

The blue smoke your Dodge motorhome is emitting does indicate an internal oil leak into the combustion chambers. The oil change and oil seal conditioner should help this situation and your Dodge motorhome should produce less blue smoke. You can visit another smog station, or even the same smog test center for a retest. There is no need to visit the state smog check referee office.
