You will not need to take any paperwork to the smog station; just the vehicle. Advise the smog technician you need a smog check for the purpose of title transfer... and they should be able to take it from there.
In such cases, where no DMV paperwork is present, the smog technician will manually enter the vehicle's information into the smog machine, rather than scanning DMV document bar codes. The vehicle's information includes make and model, year, and VIN (vehicle identification Number).
The information will be sent to the DMV after the smog test is complete, regardless of whether the car fails, passes or the test is aborted. Once the test has concluded the smog station will give you a document of your vehicle smog check results called the VIR (vehicle inspection report). The VIR is your proof of smog inspection. You may then visit the DMV to begin or complete the title transfer process.
