While installing the 350 small block you will need to install the emission components belonging to the model year of the engine you intend on constructing, or if the engine is from a donor vehicle, you may use the emission parts from that vehicle or OEM aftermarket parts to keep the engine's emission systems integrity.
The catalytic converter and EVAP system must be converted as well, including the ECM for electronically controlled engines. The exhaust system, after the CAT, does not need to be converted. This section of the exhaust is not part of the smog inspection.
After the swap is complete, your Chevy C10 will have to be inspected by a California State Referee. Since changing the engine, a regular smog check station will not be allowed to perform the initial smog check. You must visit a smog check referee office. The referee will ensure that the engine change was done properly and that the new engine does not pollute. If your vehicle passes the inspection they will issue you a BAR label which will be placed on your vehicle's chassis and will indicate your Chevy is California legal.
Contact the referee by calling (800) 622-7733.
