Sounds like you are having difficulty getting your Infiniti I30's catalyst monitor to run. We recommend completing the entire drive cycle below in order to set (make READY/COMPLETE) the required emission monitors (readiness flags) and get your Infiniti to pass the smog inspection.
Follow the Infiniti I30 Drive Cycle below accurately. If the CAT Monitor is not READY after your perform the drive cycle, perform the drive cycle again. It is important that all steps are followed precisely.
Take extra caution when performing the Drive Cycle on public roadways; obey all traffic laws. If you feel you can not perform the driving pattern, visit a certified smog check repair center or an Infiniti dealer for assistance.
Your Infiniti needs to have 1/4 to 3/4 tank full of gas before you start the drive cycle, so make sure the fuel is between these measurements. Also, begin the drive cycle with the engine cold.
A. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature (around 112F).
B. Accelerate your vehicle to 55 MPH, then release the gas pedal and allow it to coast for 10 seconds (vehicle should slow down to around 35 mph).
C. Next, accelerate to 55-60 mph and maintain this speed for 5 minutes.
D. Bring your vehicle to a stop.
E. Once again accelerate your Infiniti, only this time up to 35 MPH, and maintain that speed for 30 seconds.
F. Go back to steps D and E, and repeat them three times.
G. Finally, accelerate your Infiniti to 55 MPH and maintain that speed for 4 minutes.
H. Stop the vehicle and allow engine to idle for 1 minute.
I. Turn engine off. Drive cycle complete.
As mentioned above, if this drive cycle did not make all of your Infiniti I30 emission monitors complete, perform it again. There may have been a required drive cycle parameter which was not met.
