1993 Jaguar XJ6 Do I Have to Drive it for a Week?

Having trouble passing smog on my 1993 Jaguar XJ-6. I have replaced the EGR valve, oxygen sensor, spark plugs, fuel filter, and oil. I have also had trouble with something in the electrical system that's been draining my battery so I've been disconnecting the battery between starts. I read somewhere online that if you disconnect your battery for any reason you should run your car for at least a week before you bring it to be smogged. Is this true and if so why?

Answer:

The battery disconnection problem applies to Jaguar's which are 1996 model and newer. 1996 and newer vehicles are equipped with an OBD II (On Board Diagnostic 2nd Generation) system that the smog machine connects to which collects "emission monitor" data. Emission monitor data which are called "readiness flags" are erased whenever the battery is disconnected or needs recharging.

1995 & older vehicles are equipped with OBD I computer systems which do not collect or test for emission monitors. These vehicles only require 30 minutes of driving and only if the vehicle is equipped with adaptive fuel and air mixtures strategies.
