1981 Toyota Pickup Can Smog Test be Done Without Tailpipe Test?
My Toyota Pickup 4 x 4 didn't pass the smog check for the first time ever. I replaced the vacuum advance and distributor and took it in again. This time they didn't put the emission probe / sensor in the tailpipe and said that it failed the smog test again. I replaced the spark plugs and air filter. Again they tested it without the sensor in the tailpipe and said it was the Catalytic Converter. Is this possible to know?
Answer:
It is not possible to conduct a complete smog inspection on a pre-2000 model year gasoline powered vehicle without a tailpipe exhaust sample.
