Do not obtain a smog inspection in another state; it will not be valid in California. Unless your 2001 Saturn is in Nevada or Mexico, you DO NOT need to bring it back to California to get a smog check (for registration newal purposes). You can downlaod a California DMV "Statement of Facts" form and explaining that your Saturn is out of state. Your Saturn's registration tags will be mailed to wherever the car is currently located.
