The best way to find our if your Oldsmobile Intrigue is ready for the smog test is by using your Trouble Code scanner to check for complete "monitors". All except one incomplete monitor will be required in order to pass the smog inspection. Below you will find the GM Drive Cycle. When followed correctly it should make ready all required monitors; O2, COMP, EGR, EVAP, CAT.
- Begin at Cold Start. Engine coolant temperature must be below 122°F. Do not leave the key in prior to the cold start or the heated oxygen sensor diagnostic may not run.
- Idle. The engine must be run for two and a half minutes with the air conditioner on and rear defroster on. This will test the O2 heater, EVAP, misfire, and fuel trim.
- Accelerate. Turn off the air conditioner and all the other loads and accelerate to 55mph. During this time the misfire, fuel trim, and purge flow (EVAP) diagnostics will be performed.
- Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 55mph for 4 minutes. During this time the oxygen sensor response and EGR diagnostics will be performed.
- Decelerate. Release the gas pedal and do not shift, touch the brake (or clutch). Let your Oldsmobile coast along gradually slowing down to 15 mph.
- Accelerate. Accelerate at 3/4 throttle until 55-60mph.
- Hold Steady Speed. Hold speed steady at 55-60mph for 5 minutes. During this time the catalyst monitor diagnostics will be performed.
- Decelerate. Insure not to apply the brakes, press the clutch or shift our of gear (automatic transmission).
Complete the GM drive cycle pattern above at least 3 times in order to ensure all emission monitors are "complete" and your Oldsmobile Intrigue is ready for the smog check.
