Smog Check Repair

1988 Ford Mustang 5.0 has trouble codes I can't clear.

I had my Ford Mustang scanned for the trouble codes which it gave me:

  • 22 - MAP BARO out of range
  • 67-neutral drive switch or circuit
  • 53-throttle position sensor input out of specified range
  • 54-vane air flow sensor or aircharge temp sensor
  • 35-egr pressure feedback regulator circuit

I had all these emission parts replaced except the neutral drive switch and had the car rescanned and all the trouble codes came back. What needs to be done? Also I had bought a scanner Innova 3120 and it will not connect and or scan my car. It reads vehicle not communicating with tool *DLC no connection. Please help. I need to have my car running right. The smog check is due.

Answer:

It sounds like your Ford Mustang is suffering from a sensor power or ground problem, either at the ECU or at the ground/power source. Wherever the fault is, it's effecting multiple sensors at once. Your trouble code scanner may not be communicating with your Ford's ECU more than likely because it's not getting power, ground, or a signal voltage from the DLC. You want to ensure all ECU wiring harnesses are secure and connected to proper ground and power sources.
