Can a 1989 Chevy Beretta with no ignition switch pass the smog check?
1989 Chevy Beretta lost the keys to the car ignition. We start it with a button on the steering colum. Will this effect the smog check. We lost the keys to my car so my boyfriend took out the ignition switch. The car starts with a button on the steering colum will this effect the smog inspection?
Answer:
If your Chevy starts and runs with a ignition button instead of an ignition key and the check engine light is not illuminated, your Beretta can pass the smog inspection. The smog check process does not test for a functioning ignition key unit.
