Selling a 1982 Honda Prelude in California that is from Nevada.
In the next few months I will be moving to Ca. from Nevada and then plan to sell my 82 Honda Prelude. However, because of its age I am anticipating that it may not pass the more stringent Calif emissions test without some expense for repairs that I won't have if I sell it in Nevada. I've been reading online about selling a car in California that is from out of state, and as I understand it, it must pass what is called a "regular smog check" which can be administered at either a "test only" or a "test and repair" smog station, and that if it does pass, those test results will enable me to sell the car within 60 days. So I'm thinking on my next trip to Calif I'll get it tested to see if it passes, and if so, after I have actually made the move, so that buyers can test drive it I'll keep it registered and insured in Nevada until it is sold. Is this correct thinking or is there more that I need to know?

Yes, this is correct. You should do exactly as you've mentioned. Keep it
legally register in Nevada. Get it smogged in California. If it fails sell
it in Nevada. If it passes sell it in California. You have 60 days from the
date of the passing smog check. Make sure to keep the smog check report
you'll be given by the smog station which inspects your Honda. And also, any
smog check station can perform the smog test for the purpose of selling your
Honda Prelude.
