Does the buy back program apply to cars that are being sold?
I have a 94 gmc sonoma 4.3l v6 2wd and it is running poorly. I have purchased a new vehicle, and wish to sell the GMC. The mechanic states that it will not pass the smog check required to sell it (he has measured it as part of the diagnostic procedure, and it smells as if it won't pass). The smog is not due for another 12 mos approx, excluding the one required to sell the vehicle. Does this vehicle qualify for the buy back program assuming it fails the smog check, or does it need to fail the biennial smog check, NOT the smog check required at time of potential sell?
Answer:
Your GMC Sonoma needs to fail the biennial smog check. That's the only time
the buy back program or consumer repair assistance program is available to
California vehicle owners.
