Emissions Component

1986 Ford F-250 truck originally in California missing the emissions components and smog parts.

We moved with our Ford truck to Oregan and took off all the smog parts. Now we need to come back to California. Do I need to put all the smog components back on to register in California. I think I have all the parts I need. I hope it all fits like it should and then still runs fine.

Answer:

We know your vehicle was registered in California at one point, but is your Ford Truck a vehicle manufactured for California import? You have to check the emissions label located under the hood. It will indicate if your Ford is California emissions equipped or 49-state equipped. You'll need to install only the emissions parts which your vehicle was originally equipped with. If the emissions label says the truck is California Certified you'll need to replace all the emissions components, including smog pump, charcoal canister (EVAP) and CAT.
