According to the Motor Emissions Application Guide, your 1979 Ford F150 is required to be equipped with the following emission components whether built for California or 49-state emissions:
2 Barrel Carburetor, PCV (positive crank vent), ACL (pre-heat duct), AIS (smog pump), EGR (exhaust re-circulation), EVAP, and CAT (catalytic converter - Type OC).
As far as aftermarket emission components.... California will consider any emission modification an Emissions System Tamper, unless the components instaled posses an EO (Executive Order) number indicating the component was sold legally in California and is approved for California vehicle use.
