Failed Smog Test

2005 Ford Focus - OBD II P0767

The check engine light was on so my car failed the smog check. The trouble code was P0767. The smog technician said to reset the trouble code and drive it 80 miles, then return to the smog station and ti would pass. Is this correct? And how do I reset it?

Answer:

OBD II Fault code P0767 indicates a transmission problem: SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE D STUCK ON Problems you might be experiencing: - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) - Transmission will not shift gears. Possible causes: - Low transmission fluid level - Dirty transmission fluid - Faulty shift solenoid D valve - Shift solenoid D valve harness or connectors - Shift solenoid D valve circuit is open or shorted Resetting the check engine light will require erasing the trouble code (P0767) using a scan tool. Once the trouble code is erased, you will need to reset the emission monitors (readiness flags) by driving your vehicle for at least 200 miles.
